Ko Toku Marae Tenei

Ko Toku Marae is a waiata that welcomes people to our marae. We could think of our school as almost kind of like a marae, because it's a meeting place for us. You'll learn to say 'He wahi', which means 'a place'. Example, he wahi waiata is a place we sing.

Ko Toku Marae Tenei

Ko toku marae tenei
He wahi powhiri (powhiri)
Ko toku marae tenei
He wahi whaikorero (whaikorero)
He wahi waiata
He wahi hongi
He wahi manaaki
He wahi takaro hoki
Ko toku marae tenei

(Repeat verse)

He wahi takaro hoki
Ko toku marae tenei

(Kaea…)
Tuturu whakawhiti whakamaua kia tina
Hui e Taiki e!

Here is a version recorded by Birchwood students a couple of years ago. These people will be much bigger now!
