Tutira Mai Nga Iwi

Tutira Mai Nga Iwi - Canon Wiremu Wi Te Tau Huata

Canon Wiremu Wi Te Tau Huata made the song up as he and his family drove past Lake Tutira in Hawke's Bay. It's safe to say it has become a classic in Aotearoa.

Do be careful to sing correctly! For years "we" have been singing:
Ki-a ko-tapa-tahi,
Ki-a ko-tahi ra
Whereas the actual words are:
Ki-a tapa-tahi,
Ki-a ko-tahi ra
(no 'ko'!)

This is a beautiful, meaningful and well-known waiata. You can download words below. Chords vary, but I play D - G - A. I can post chords soon.

Tutira mai nga iwi (AUE)
tatou tatou e
Tutira mai nga iwi (AUE)
tatou tatou e
Whai-a te marama-tanga,
me te aroha - e nga iwi!
Ki-a tapa-tahi,
Ki-a ko-tahi ra
Tatou tatou e
(Repeat)
Ta-tou ta-tou e E!
Tahi rua toru wha kss hi aue hi!

Line up together, people
All of us, all of us.
Stand in rows, people
All of us, all of us.
Seek after knowledge
and love of others - everybody!
Be really virtuous
 And stay united.
All of us, all of us.

All of us, all of us!!
Hi aue hei !!!
