Loosely translated as:

Matua Hautere, the man, the myth, the legend

Matua Hautere is the ancestor from Hawaiki who followed the footsteps of his ancestor Kupe.

Matua Hautere is the ancestor who crossed Te Moana o Raukawa on his waka Te Hoiere, lead by his friend, the kaitiaki, Kaikaiāwaro.

Matua Hautere is the ancestor who claimed this land, the thriving land of our ancestors, with the water that created the fish,

The man, the myth, the legend- Matua Hautere.

This is a brief, rough translation that misses some subtle but important 'clarifications'. I'll find time one day to include some more of this points. Any error here is mine and do feel free to ask more or clarify things if you like.
